Building a Future:

The ValleyWorks Career Center helps youth gain the skills, experiences and confidence to pursue their ideal career. The agency has a staff of professional career counselors who help each young person discover their career interests and work toward attaining the certifications and skills to be fully employed.

ValleyWorks cooperates with many organizations throughout the Merrimack Valley to provide young people aged 14-21 specialized training in job related skills. We offer in-school programs which help youth explore many career options, while completing their high school education. We also offer programs for out-of-school youth which help them earn their GED and gain specific work skills.

Funded by Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Funds, youth programs are provided for those aged 14-21 who meet certain eligibility criteria. Youth are selected for participation in each program based on their career goals and the program's purpose.

WHERE DO I START?
First, become a member of ValleyWorks Career Center. This membership is free and opens the door to services offered to any one interested in beginning a successful search for a career.

WHAT'S NEXT?
An initial meeting with a Youth Career Counselor is arranged, during which he/she explains the services of the VWCC. Each Youth Career Counselor is an advocate, making sure that the youth understand the services they are entitled to and that the services they receive are effective in helping them meet their training or career goals. The Youth Career Counselor is a coach, someone who can also give advice and encouragement in helping youth succeed.

NOTE: Youth are asked to bring proof of age, citizenship, family income, and family size o their initial meeting. This information will determine what services a youth is eligible for from the VWCC.

After the initial meeting, the youth is then invited back to complete an assessment test to determine the best place to start her/his career plans. The assessment also helps determine career goals if none are in mind now.

Upon completion of the assessment test, the youth and counselor then create a plan for career success.
